Industrial Manufacturing

Shortages caught before assembly, schedules repaired when a work center stops, and promise dates checked against capacity.

The operating reality

What makes it hard

Multi-level BOMs, shared work centers and long-lead items make every order compete for the same constraints. Make-to-order and make-to-stock run side by side, subcontracting adds queues outside your walls, and engineering changes alter the BOM while orders are in flight.

Discrete manufacturers of machinery, electrical equipment, engineered components and auto parts build from multi-level bills of material. Parts follow routings through work centers such as machining, fabrication, heat treatment and assembly, and some operations, like plating or heat treatment, go out to subcontractors.

Much of the business is make-to-order. The customer asks for a date when the order is placed, and that date depends on long-lead purchased parts such as castings and forgings and on the most loaded work center. Spares and aftermarket orders run beside the main build plan on a lumpier demand pattern of their own.

Operational challenges

Where it hurts

Dates quoted before capacity is checked

Sales quotes a standard lead time. Whether the constrained work center and the long-lead castings can meet it is found out later.

Long-lead parts found short at assembly

A missing bought-out part stops a nearly finished build. The gap was visible in the schedule weeks earlier, and nobody compared the two.

Subcontracted operations with no status

Parts sent out for plating or heat treatment disappear from view until they return, and the assembly schedule waits.

The schedule breaks at the first machine stop

When a work center goes down, re-planning means moving jobs by hand without seeing which orders become late.

What FLX4 does about it

Plays for Industrial Manufacturing

Shortage-led purchasing

OpsNest compares scheduled consumption with stock and open POs each night, drafts POs for the gaps and routes them by value for approval. Suppliers acknowledge and update dispatch in a portal.

Schedule repair

OpsNest's stage-by-stage scheduler works with shift calendars, locks the near term when something changes, and shows which jobs move and which become late.

Capable-to-promise dates

PromiseNest combines stock and open supply with a capacity check against the OpsNest schedule, and abstains when its data is stale.

Should-cost for bought-out parts

SourceNest runs RFQs through a supplier portal, checks quotes against should-cost and proposes award splits within MOQ and lead-time limits.

Outcomes we measure

What it helps you work toward

Outcomes are measured against a baseline we agree with you in writing.

Dates kept

Promised against delivered date, by product family

Fewer builds started short

Work orders started with a missing part, and which part caused it

Subcontract turnaround

Days at the subcontractor against the agreed turnaround, by vendor

A steadier schedule

Jobs moved and jobs made late per approved revision

Industry packs

  • OpsNest

Discrete manufacturers run on OpsNest's core: allocation, stage-by-stage scheduling with repair, shortage-led purchasing, the PO lifecycle and the vendor portal.

  • PromiseNestSourceNest

PromiseNest adds capable-to-promise against that schedule, and SourceNest adds RFQs and should-cost for bought-out parts.

  • Semi³ · Semiconductor intelligence

Semiconductor fabs, OSATs and equipment makers are served by our sister brand Semi³ at semi3.com.
